Tab. Escilex 10 mg

Indication:
Used for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Pharmacology, Dosage & Administration:
Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases serotonin levels in the brain by inhibiting its reuptake at the synaptic cleft, improving mood and anxiety symptoms.

Recommended starting dose: 10 mg once daily, which may be increased up to 20 mg per day depending on patient response.
Can be taken with or without food.

Interaction:
May interact with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), increasing the risk of serotonin syndrome.
Enhanced effects when combined with other serotonergic drugs (e.g., tramadol, triptans).
Can increase bleeding risk when taken with NSAIDs or anticoagulants.

Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to escitalopram or other SSRIs.
Concurrent use with MAOIs or within 14 days of discontinuing an MAOI.
Severe liver impairment or uncontrolled epilepsy.

Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, insomnia, dry mouth, fatigue, dizziness
Rare: Serotonin syndrome, seizures, suicidal thoughts (especially in young adults)

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy Category C – Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Caution during lactation as escitalopram may pass into breast milk.

Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for worsening depression or suicidal thoughts, especially during initial treatment.
Use cautiously in patients with a history of seizures, bipolar disorder, or bleeding disorders.
Gradual dose reduction is recommended to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

Overdose Effects:
Symptoms may include dizziness, tremor, drowsiness, nausea, and in severe cases, seizures or cardiac arrhythmias.
Treatment is supportive with close monitoring.
