Indication:
Used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) to reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications such as stroke and heart attack.

Pharmacology, Dosage & Administration:
Olmesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents vasoconstriction by blocking angiotensin II receptors, leading to lowered blood pressure.

Usual dose: 20 mg once daily, which may be increased based on the patient’s response, up to a maximum of 40 mg per day.
Can be taken with or without food.

Interaction:
May interact with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements, increasing the risk of hyperkalemia.
Reduced effectiveness when used with NSAIDs.
Caution when combined with lithium (risk of toxicity) and other antihypertensives (additive hypotensive effects).

Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to olmesartan or any of its components.
Pregnancy (especially in the second and third trimesters) due to fetal toxicity risk.
Severe renal artery stenosis or significant renal impairment.

Side Effects:
Common: Dizziness, headache, fatigue, hypotension
Rare: Hyperkalemia, kidney dysfunction, and allergic skin reactions

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy due to potential harm to the fetus.
Use with caution during lactation; consult a healthcare provider.

Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor renal function and electrolyte levels, especially potassium.
Use cautiously in patients with renal impairment, congestive heart failure, or volume depletion.
Can cause symptomatic hypotension, particularly after the first dose.

Overdose Effects:
May result in severe hypotension, dizziness, or rapid heartbeat.
Supportive treatment is recommended, including monitoring blood pressure and kidney function.
