Description

Ingredients:
Each tablet contains:
Linagliptin 5 mg

Direction of Use:
Take once daily, with or without food.
Swallow whole with a glass of water.
Do not crush or chew the tablet.

Indication:
Used for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus to improve blood sugar control.
Can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic medications like metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin.

Pharmacology:
Linagliptin is a Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases incretin hormone levels (GLP-1 and GIP).
Incretins help to regulate blood glucose levels by stimulating insulin release and reducing glucagon secretion.
Unlike some other antidiabetic drugs, linagliptin has a low risk of hypoglycemia and does not cause weight gain.

Dosage & Administration:
Recommended dose: 5 mg once daily.
For patients with kidney disease: No dose adjustment is required.

Can be taken alone or with other antidiabetic medications as prescribed by a doctor.

Interaction:
With insulin or sulfonylureas (e.g., glimepiride): May increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
With rifampin: May reduce linagliptin’s effectiveness.
With strong CYP3A4 and P-gp inducers (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine): May lower linagliptin levels in the blood.

Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to linagliptin or any component of the tablet.
Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis (not recommended).

Side Effects:
Common: Nasopharyngitis (cold symptoms), headache, cough.
Rare but serious: Pancreatitis (severe stomach pain), joint pain, allergic reactions.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Use only if the benefits outweigh the risks. Consult a doctor before use.
Lactation: Not recommended as safety data is limited.

Precautions & Warnings:
Patients with heart disease: Use with caution, as there is a slight risk of heart failure in some patients.
Patients with a history of pancreatitis: Should be monitored carefully.
Monitor blood sugar levels regularly to ensure effective control.

Overdose Effects:
Overdose may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), dizziness, and nausea.
Seek medical attention immediately in case of overdose.

Therapeutic Class:
DPP-4 Inhibitor (Antidiabetic Agent).

Storage Conditions:
Store at room temperature (below 30°C), away from moisture and direct sunlight.
Keep out of reach of children.
