Pharmacology:
Ciprofibrate is a fibric acid derivative (fibrate) that works by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARα). This results in:
Increased oxidation of fatty acids in the liver
Decreased triglyceride synthesis
Increased HDL cholesterol levels
Reduction in VLDL and LDL cholesterol levels
It improves lipid profile and reduces cardiovascular risk in select high-risk patients.
Category:
Lipid-lowering Agent / Fibrate Class
