Description
Trego Ointment is a topical antibiotic containing 2% Mupirocin, produced by Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Ingredients:
Mupirocin 2% w/w.
Direction of Use:
Apply a small amount to the affected area three times daily for up to 10 days. The treated area may be covered with a dressing if desired.
Indication:
Indicated for the topical treatment of primary skin infections such as impetigo, folliculitis, and furunculosis caused by susceptible strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes.
Pharmacology:
Mupirocin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by reversibly binding to isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, effectively halting bacterial growth.
Dosage & Administration:
For adults and children aged 2 months and older: Apply a small amount to the affected area three times daily for up to 10 days.
Interaction:
No significant drug interactions have been identified with Trego Ointment.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to Mupirocin or any component of the preparation.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include burning, stinging, pain, itching, rash, nausea, erythema, dry skin, tenderness, swelling, contact dermatitis, and increased exudate.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed, as there are no adequate studies in pregnant women. Caution is advised when administering to nursing women, as it is unknown whether Mupirocin is excreted in human milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Not for ophthalmic or intranasal use. Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. Avoid contact with eyes, especially when used on the face. Use with caution in patients with moderate or severe renal impairment due to the polyethylene glycol base.
Overdose Effects:
Limited data are available on overdose. In case of overdose, provide supportive treatment with appropriate monitoring.
